For the unfamiliar, Cry Wolf (aka Mafia) is basically a game of secrecy, treachery, and freaking out OOCly about half of the time. This post contains information about the game, and most have been copy-pasted from cryfuckuwolf @ LJ. I would say from experience that you learn more about the game as you play it, so it's def worth a shot.

If you'd like to see how I'd be running this, some old games can be found over at [community profile] cfudcrywolf. This is the 999 kill game I've hosted, and this is a non-kill game based on the board game Clue.

— All comments are screened, but votes will be ICly revealed when the trial finishes.

— Voting for "no one" is permitted.

— "No one" is treated the same as a vote for a person - if it gets the most votes, it will be selected. Not voting will now count as a randomised vote for a character at the end of the trial phase.

— Not voting at all will be put down as "no one," but this will change if enough people aren't voting properly. Please vote!

— ICly, all the votes are done at once, at the very end of the trial. OOCly, you're able to change your vote as is necessary.

— Ties will be broken randomly.

— You have 24 hrs to vote! Voting ends on the 21st, 6 PM EST.

ROLES
Altogether there are 13 innocents (including 1 prosecutor, 1 defense attorney, 1 reporter, and 1 detective), 4 guilty parties (including 1 corrupt prosecutor and 1 corrupt detective), and one neutral.

INNOCENT:
Prosecutor: Uses logic and evidence to determine the guilt or innocence of whomever they investigate at night.
Defense Attorney: Chooses a client to protect at night. Even if the guilty choose that client, they will survive the night with their life intact. No one is entirely sure how the defense attorney pulls this off, including the defense attorney himself.
Reporter: Follows a person of their choice at night. They are guaranteed to get an ~interesting~ scoop!
Detective: Arrests and detains a suspect of their choosing. Anyone jailed at night can neither act nor be acted upon; they cannot prosecute or be prosecuted, kill or be killed (this will only stop a murder in the case where the guilty party locked up is the very last), witness or be witnessed. The detective can (but is not required to) reveal themselves to their suspect and speak to them during the night, if they wish.

GUILTY:
Corrupt Prosecutor: Uses logic and evidence to determine the role of whomever they investigate at night.
Bad Cop: Detains a victim in the same fashion as the detective. Incidentally, neither of the two can detain one another. Oh, they can try; they can even talk to them as they would a normal suspect. But the arrested police officer will simply sneak out when the other isn’t looking. They both have keys to the clink, after all!

???:
Survivor: The survivor cares nothing for innocence or guilt, and counts toward neither total. Their only goal is to make it to the end of the party alive.
Witnesses: Regardless of affiliation, you may see something ~interesting~ at night.

Brainwashing Innate Knowledge:

— Every character will know who Dr. Jonathan Black is. He's a famous surgeon in Los Angeles.

— The date is October 31, 2026. How you got there from the future, nobody knows. But you’re SURE you were invited to this specific party. When asked if you’re from the future or what the last thing you remember is, what your canon point will be will be your answer. As for how you got here, you will say that it’s because Dr. Black invited you. Nothing more, nothing less.

— Sleeping in the same room at night is not allowed. There are no ifs, nor buts to this.

— More info will be provided once Roles have been sent out. :)

— All that having been said, in general brainwashing can be played as strong or as weak as a) is fun and b) keeps the character participating in the game. Characters are free to question their brainwashing or be confused with things that blatantly contradict, but these issues should generally resolve themselves in favor of the brainwashing and any direct word from the badgers should be believed without question.

[ You find yourself in the balcony area of the auditorium. You can see what's happening on stage (backstage is a separate issue), but it doesn't seem like you have much liberty in moving around.

There's a door, but it only leads to a small hallway. At least there's also a buffet table there, and doors to bathrooms! The elevators aren't responding to anything, nor will the fire exit door budge. You're still stuck!

As for seeing the proceedings backstage, you'll find some black and white TVs on the floor in the balcony. They're all conveniently plugged, and each TV shows a different room. Feel free to make your own commentary on the proceedings! ]

[ Each wolf will receive a text stating:
Now
Meet other wolves
Female's W.C.
3rd cubicle
Flush three times

They also have the option to reply to the message. (Ping me if this happens!)

And if they follow the instructions, the wall behind the cubicle will slowly reveal a ~ secret path ~ to a secret room.

Except, this room is also a washroom. But it looks pretty swag, like a hotel's bathroom. There's a bathtub, a shower, a toilet with a bidet, a HUGEass mirror, and the floor is carpeted. It seems like a pretty private place for you and your fellow wolves to plot in.

Have fun! ]

[ Team Gavin might be resting, or at least within the confines of their room.

Knock, knock. You've got a visitor. ]
protoshepherd: (pic#8860709)
[ You're in your room, and someone steps out of the mirror. ]

Evening.
protoshepherd: (pic#8860715)
[ You're dead. Either you were ousted and seemed as an ally of the Bad Badger, or the actual allies of the Bad Badger actually got to you.

You remember dying. If you were already dead prior to this whole game... well, you're alive again.

Your death may have been terrible. Poison, being stabbed multiple times, blunt trauma to the head, hanged... whatever. You can still feel the pain.

But... Where are you? You see white walls around you. You're in a hospital...? You're in a room, but there's no one else but you and a man in a blue costume. He doesn't want to reveal his real head, so he hides behind a mask. A badger wearing a blue jester's hat.

And... another person? Has that other person been there all along?

Then you remember being in a mansion. Was that all a dream? You try to figure it out on your own, but you can't seem to come up with an answer. If by any chance you look into the badger's empty black eyes, you might feel like you're being taken to a completely different place. It's as if you can see the mansion again. You can see the people talking, but if you try to call out, nothing happens. They can't hear you.

You avert your gaze from the badger, and those images disappear.

There's so much happening. Pain, and this crazy badger.

You, on the other hand, aren't wearing a blue costume. You have a white dress on, with an opening at the back. That was definitely not what you were wearing... or was it?

You have so many questions. But at least you're not alone. Someone can answer those questions for you. ]

--

[ NOTE Your characters will be able to see the events happening in the game while in the graveyard as long as they're looking at the Proto Badger. They cannot participate in any of the polls, or try to converse with anybody that isn't in this room. ]

[ Behind the sneaky mirror thing in the hallway is a secret room. You seem to have the knowledge that you can enter that hidden room. But, if you do check it out, make sure that no one else is with you.

For it is the wolves den.

And the Proto Badger has been waiting... ]
