[ beat ] I don't hate the other Fey. I love Mystics Mia and Maya very much. I don't want them to get hurt.

[ Welp, crap. There goes her plan to run to Mr Nick to tell him about it. ]

But... Mr Badger... how come you can't find the bad badger's friends yourself? You seem to be able to move about so freely, and know more than we do...

[ He doesn't answer, but instead, crouches so Pearl can get a better look of his eyes.

They're pitch black, but if Pearl looks hard enough, he'll see Apollo in a room - white walls, while ceiling, everything. He's just seated there, resting. ]

[ Pearl cautiously peers inside his eyes of abyss and... what the actual frick. ]

Apollo...? Is he... is he literally inside your eye...?

[ Are people being held hostage inside the mirror badger, is that's what's happening. Or is she taking this way too literally. ]

No. Not here. Not in eye.

But he is there.

[ "There". Wherever there is. But there's something more important to ask. ]

Are you the one torturing him?

[protoshepherd]

[ Translation: He doesn't want to answer. ]

[ How can he not know? Damn it, mirror badger. Though it's a good thing he didn't say yes, because then Pearl might have just tossed the coin into his soulless eyes hoping to blow him up. ]

I see... [ Pearl bites her lip, trying to think of another question before the badger decides to vanish back into his magic mirror. ] Is anyone else being held captive besides Apollo and Mr Edgeworth?

[ And then he pauses. Names are a bit difficult to remember. ]

Fey. Dark haired lady.

[ Athena... and a Fey. Literally all three of the missing Fey women are dark-haired, so Pearl's not sure who it could mean-- she's not sure she wants to know. ]

Am I allowed to tell anyone you told me that...? [ She's guessing no, but it doesn't hurt to ask. The others have been wondering who else could be taken, after all. ]

A-aside from that... if we find these friends of the bad badger, they'll all be let go. Right?

No, no, of course not!

[ But that is a good point... she can't just go "hey, by the way, I know who else was taken." without raising suspicion... And if people start thinking she's suspicious, even wrongly so, they might start thinking other people like Maya or Trucy are suspicious too... she can't tell anyone about this unexpected meeting at all, can she. ]

I was just worried about everyone, that was all...

[ Carefully turning the coin around in her hands, she decides to switch subjects. She doesn't want the mirror badger deciding she's bad, either. And if she asks anything more that she wants to ask, she's afraid she'll learn too much to be able to keep her little mouth shut. ]

So, about this thing... I'm just supposed to hand it to who I think should be ousted, if I don't like who's being ousted...? [ To clarify. She still can't picture using it, but... if somehow it came down to two teams or people she cared about, she just might. ]

[ He nods twice. Very slowly. Like a grandpa. ]

[ Who doesn't want a badger grandpa with soulless black pits for eyes who can walk through mirrors and gives you a bomb? ]

And they'll die instead of whoever's ousted...? Will they just explode when I give it to them?

[ That is a relief... she was sort of picturing herself ending up in human exploded bits after using it, which uh... would be extra awful. ]

And this person I choose... what if they aren't a bad badger, either? What if I get it wrong?

[ Because that would be very, very easy to do... especially since she's not sure the bad badgers even exist. ]

[ Well, at least he didn't say "if that happens I'll murder you" or something, but... gee, isn't this grand. ]

Does this only work for the next ousting, or can I hang onto it for a while?

[ She hates to think that there will be more than one of these ousting things, but uh. Clearly there will be. Do you hear that, Mr Badger? It's the sound of Pearl's pure heart breaking quietly, just a little. ]

[ She looks somewhat relieved to hear that. If she doesn't use it, at least it won't be a looming issue to deal with, driving her mad. ]

[ He just shakes his head, and takes a step back. His foot enters the mirror, then he turns and goes right back inside.

The mirror is back to normal, now. ]
