cry wolf mechanics

For the unfamiliar, Cry Wolf (aka Mafia) is basically a game of secrecy, treachery, and freaking out OOCly about half of the time. This post contains information about the game, and most have been copy-pasted from cryfuckuwolf @ LJ. I would say from experience that you learn more about the game as you play it, so it's def worth a shot.

If you'd like to see how I'd be running this, some old games can be found over at [community profile] cfudcrywolf. This is the 999 kill game I've hosted, and this is a non-kill game based on the board game Clue.

Mechanics:
- There will be twelve teams*, with three of those teams as wolves, while nine are sheep. Every night, the wolves kill** off one sheep. But before that, they all mingle and discuss and everyone, wolves and sheep alike, vote someone out. Obviously, the goal is for the sheep to vote out all the wolves before the flock itself is emptied by the combination of incorrect voting and the wolves killing the sheep off.

- The order of events per day*** is as follows: Mingle and suspicion poll gets put up => Shepherd provides hint/activity => Suspicion poll gets put to a close => Ousting => Wolf eats => Next day. Any team is free to vote right off the bat. The top two teams with the most votes in the suspicion poll gets the hot seat and will be eligible for ousting. This is kind of like the make it, or break it point. Once a team has been ousted, they are out of the game. After ousting, wolves get to pick on a team to take out. So basically, there will be two teams who will be out of the game at the end of each day.

- Through all of this, there is the Shepherd. The Shepherd is will be some NPC I think of, probably Proto Badger for all the horrors. The shepherd organises the game, rolls the dice to choose who are the sheep and who are the wolves. They makes all the posts and sets up all the votes, and gives hints to the sheeps and listens when the wolves say who they want to kill.

- During the duration of the game, you are free to say what you are to other teams, or you can lie about what you are. This will likely only cast suspicion on you, but as long as it's done ICly, there's nothing to stop you. Outside the game, this is not allowed. And I will cry at you and scream at you and just be very sad and be forced to remove you (and your team) from the game. Only wolves know everyone's roles.

- The hints that are given will contain team names. Hints usually come in threes, with one of the names being a wolf's. Once the hint has been given and deciphered, the flock can question those who are mentioned in the hint, or do f-locked posts, etc.

- On the subject of f-locked posts, if you'd like your team to talk to another team in private, please make a locked and filtered post to your journals, and make sure that the Shepherd is also added to the filter.

- Sheep can win by voting out ALL the wolves. Wolves win when there are less than three sheep teams left. As a note, when sheep have not ousted one wolf by the third day, the Shepherd will give out a warning. If the sheep still have not ousted a wolf by the third night, the game ends and the wolves win.

- Since this will be limited to AA characters, idk yet if doubles would be allowed. Thoughts on this? (Reason for doubles would be something like different timelines, etc.)

*- While I refer to all participants as teams, if there's not a lot of interest, then some players may have to work on their own.

**- In some cases, kill does not necessarily mean the actual offing of a person! It just means they will be taken out of the game.

***- Cry Wolf is usually fast paced where 1 IC day = 1 OOC day, but we can change that here and slow time down to maybe 1 IC day = 4-5 OOC days?? Shorter? Longer? Let's talk about it! If it's 2-3 OOC days, this whole game may take up to 15 days tops. Any longer would probably be a month or a bit over that. As a note, ousting is the part that usually the quickest. In cryfuckuwolf, ousting only lasts for an hour. So if we were to make 1 IC day = 2-3 OOC days, we can probably have this part last maybe 12 hours or so.
